Working Bluebill Decoy
Roy Conklin (1909-1967)

Alexandria Bay, NY c.1950

Nicely preserved working bluebill decoy from the collection of Thousand Island decoy author and historian Larry Lunman.  The decoy appears to have been weighted at one point but was never rigged.  Being a gunning model the tail is thickly carved.  Roy's direct influence from his earlier days of carving with Frank Coombs (1882-1958) is incredibly prevalent in this alert high head model that mirrors the carving style of Frank.  The paint is intricately applied with thick comb painting on the back.  Deep carved bill and eye socket lines.

Condition: Entirely original with light wear, mostly near bottom edges.
