Eastern Bluebird - Helen Strong

Eastern Bluebird - Helen Strong

Spectacular miniature Eastern Bluebird by Helen Lay Strong (1915-1995) of Seneca Falls, NY c.1965-70.

Highly regarded for her accuracy, this piece doesn't disappoint. Many shades of blue and orange perfectly capture the color of the bird. The wing and tail feathers are carved with fine detail. Makers sticker with signature and species name on underside.

Her work is represented in the permanent collections of many museums including the Ward Museum of Waterfowl Art in Salisbury, MD. Her carvings were offered through Abercrombie and Fitch in New York from 1945 until 1960. Please see Ellis' "Birds in Wood and Paint" book, page 166, for commentary on her work.

Condition: small spot of darkening on back and sliver of wood missing from left wing tip. Otherwise near perfect original condition.
