'Master Class' carved life-sze White-Breasted Nuthatch by Master World Champion carver Bruce Lepper of Millbrook, Canada c.2001

 

Highly refined in the Master's division style with the tree bark base being entirely carved and crafted by Bruce. Signed and dated on the underside.

 

"Lepper began carving wildfowl in 1986 after a career as an advertising art director and graphic designer. Since he began competing in 1987, he has won numerous ribbons, including many Best in Shows in Canada, and in the U.S. In 1992 he started competing at the Ward World Championship, and in 1999 placed Second in World, Decorative Miniature Wildfowl. In 2003 he won a Best in Masters Decorative Life-size Wildfowl, and second in World Decorative Miniature Wildfowl. He has shown his work at the Easton Waterfowl Festival for the past ten years. Noted primarily for his songbirds, he is also recognized for his raptors. He is a respected teacher of bird carving in Canada and the US." - The Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art

 

In the time since the excerpt above was written, Bruce has gone on to take more 'Best in Masters' ribbons as well as place numerous times in the catergory. During this period, he has been taking home ribbon after ribbon at national carving events like the Canadian National Wildfowl Carving Championships.
