Unknown Dowitcher decoy found in Connecticut and believed to be from Connecticut but has plenty of New Jersey influence. c.1900-1920.
Appears to have been crafted from early dimensional lumber. Either by intent or chance, the way the bird is crafted, aside from its main purpose as a stick up, it can be set as if to appear to be nesting / resting. Fantastic folky form with painted eyes. Few Connecticut shorebirds are known to exist as it wasn't the natural route these birds would take. Generally, they would accumulate just south of CT on Long Island.
Condition: 100% original with strong paint and light gunning wear.
