Early and Rare Meadowlark

Jess Blackstone (1909-1988)

Concord, NH, c. 1940's

4" tall

Hard to find species referred to a few times in Joseph E. Ellis' Birds in Woods and Paint.  An incredibly early example in the species bearing #8, the species, and the JB monogram on the underside.  It's believed that Jess made less than 100 of this species.

The body is rasped as usual to provide a feathering surface and it is a touch more plump than his norm.

Condition:  Very good original condition with a minor sliver from under the bill.
